Account modes

Four ways to play

Every account picks one of four modes when it is created. No mode changes how combat works — 99 Strength hits the same on all four. A mode decides how fast you level, who you can trade with, and a few rules about what you may buy or pick up. Every mode can train combat and fight other players in the Wilderness.

Standard and the PvP path skill at the same rate, so they share the same Standard & PvP skilling boards. The PvP path’s one advantage is faster combat training — which also gets you to PvE content sooner. That is a real advantage and we do not pretend otherwise: the two paths are not competitively identical. Combat experience never counts toward the daily, weekly and monthly skilling competitions, in any mode.

Your choice is permanent

A mode cannot be switched, because modes level at different speeds — a mode you could leave is a mode everybody would enter whenever it happened to be faster.

  • Iron Man → Standard (“de-iron”) is the one exception. Type ::deiron request; after 7 days you may complete it with ::deiron confirm (cancel any time with ::deiron cancel). It is one-way: a de-ironed character can never be an Iron Man again, and the change is recorded. ::deiron permanent gives the option up for good instead.
  • Group Iron Men cannot de-iron. Leaving your group (::group leave) keeps you a Group Iron Man on your own.
  • A staff reset of your account setup does not give you a second starter kit or anything else you already had.

The combat XP lock

::xplock <stat|all|none|list> stops a combat stat gaining experience — useful for pures and skillers. A locked stat gains nothing from any source: combat, spells and prayers, burying bones, quest rewards, lamps and any other reward.

Only the seven combat stats can be locked; skills never are. Magic includes non-combat spells and Prayer includes bones. You can unlock again at any time.

Group Iron Man: group rules

  • The group’s shared storage belongs to the group. Leaving takes nothing from it.
  • Only the founder invites. If the founder leaves, the longest-standing member becomes founder.
  • You can only ever belong to one shared group. Once you have been in a group with anyone else, you cannot found or join another — items taken from one group must never reach a second. A group nobody else joined does not count.
  • If your account stops being a Group Iron Man, you leave your group immediately.

Iron Man shop list

Iron Men and Group Iron Men may buy only from these shops, and only the shop’s own stock — never what other players sold to it. Selling is allowed anywhere. New shops are added only after a review.

  • Lumbridge General Store — basic supplies at the shop’s own stock level.
  • Bob’s Brilliant Axes — the first gathering tools, which nobody else can give an Iron Man.

The PvP path’s quest rule

Waived combat requirements, not completed quests

A new PvP-path character has the quest requirements waived for the combat equipment, prayers and spellbooks below. A waiver is not a completion:

  • the quest is not completed — it stays in your quest list, and you can still do it for its real rewards;
  • you get no quest experience, items, quest points, completion messages or achievements from a waiver;
  • every other quest is earned, including every GG quest (such as Below the Castle).

Not waived: Song of the Elves — it gates only crystal axes, which are woodcutting tools, and the PvP path skills on the same boards as Standard.

Also worth knowing: a waiver counts wherever the game asks “has this quest been done?”, so where a boss’s entrance names one of these quests (Regicide, Dragon Slayer II, While Guthix Sleeps, Secrets of the North, The Final Dawn, Priest in Peril), a PvP-path character meets that requirement too. Rigour, Augury and Preserve are learned from their scrolls in every mode.

Accounts created before this change keep exactly what they already have.
